About Our Data
How we source, calibrate, and maintain the information on FaeIndex.
Spice Levels
Spice levels are assigned on a 1–5 scale calibrated against widely-read community benchmarks. A Court of Thorns and Roses (book 1) anchors the scale at 4/5 — explicit scenes present but not the primary focus. A Court of Mist and Fury anchors 5/5 — fully explicit adult romance.
Ratings reflect the highest intensity reached in the book, not the average. A book with one explicit scene and otherwise fade-to-black content will be rated on that scene.

Content Warnings
Content warnings are sourced from reader communities, published content guides, and direct review of the books. We err on the side of inclusion — if a trigger is present in the book in any meaningful form, it is flagged.
We do not rate severity within a warning (e.g. "brief mention" vs. "major plot element"). If the distinction matters to you, we recommend checking a reader-maintained guide like Does the Dog Die ↗ for more granular detail.
Tropes
Tropes are assigned based on whether they are a meaningful part of the book's romantic arc or plot — not whether they appear briefly. A slow-burn tag means the romance develops gradually across a significant portion of the book. An enemies-to-lovers tag means the antagonism between the leads is a genuine narrative thread, not just initial friction.
Reading Order
Reading order follows the author's intended publication order unless the author has explicitly recommended an alternate order. Novellas are placed at the position in the series where they are most narratively relevant — typically between the mainline books they bridge.
Affiliate Links
FaeIndex participates in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program. When you click a book link and purchase on Amazon, we earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. This is how we keep the site free and maintained.
Affiliate relationships do not influence which books are included in the catalog, their spice ratings, trope tags, or content warnings. Books are added based on relevance to the romantasy genre.
Data Currency
The catalog was last reviewed in June 2026. New releases are added on an ongoing basis. If you notice a missing book, an incorrect rating, or a missing content warning, please reach out — we want the data to be accurate.
